Secretariat fans have been waiting 39 years for this, documenting the corrected official time in the 1973 Preakness Stakes. This published image of Secretariat celebrates each of his track record performances in the Triple Crown. The Maryland Racing Commission's recent ruling correcting Secretariat's time in the second jewel of the Triple Crown from 1:54 2/5 to 1:53, the Meadow Stable champion became the existing Preakness Stakes record-holder and was retroactively recognized for establishing a new track record at Pimlico for the 1 3/16 mile distance. The unprecedented ruling allows this amazing racing accomplishment to join the still existing stakes and track record performances in the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs (1:59 2/5) and the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park (2:24). It is highly unlikely this feat of sustained excellence through the grueling test of the Triple Crown.
